How can i hide local host name when i am on irc?

is there a way it can just show my isp..or can i create a local host name?..ive seen some folks on irc who have that

The question is always wondered, "why do you need to hide it?" lol

Well I for one wouldn't want the minority of people to get hold of my IP address and possibly keep packeting me.
