mmm i don't know what the policy of mirc.com is in this matter, but i figured i might try asking.

could a network that uses the unrealircd m_spy mod and commandsno mod to spy massively on its users be removed from the server list.
the network is digital irc... an former user of that network asked me if i could prove that they were spying on PMs cause admins had always denied they were, a simple /module showed the spy and commandsnomask mod yet, this is nowhere in their motd nor on their site, which in my opinion is an obious violation of users' privacy.

it s up to u guys whether u decide to remove that network from the serverlist or not, but personally i don't think it deserves being in it...

Are you sure this is the entire network and not just a single server though? In case it's just a single server, you could try to have it delinked from the network. Try connecting to other servers and check there.

well it doesn't work unless loaded on all servers as far as i know, and yeh, i connected too all servers in the dns pool and it was always listed, which means the network owner must be aware of it or maybe even resposible for it... also they use a rather new install so it s not something that has just been forgotten over time.

Of course it's ultimately up to Krejt, but I do not see why they should be removed. The politics of each IRC network should not determine their access to the server list if they meet the other requirements.

Whilst I personally do not condone private message spying by admins - and saying that IRC PMs are not important enough to spy on anyway is not a very good defense - I do think the server list maintenance needs to be objective lest it become far too complicated/political for one man to handle!

by connecting to that server you accept their rules and regulations, so basicly you can't do anything about it. you can try and find another network but thats about it.

In the case that a Personal Message conversation is actualy looked at is probably only for security reasons only. Assuming they *found* out about a user who was out to harm the network, they'd probably want to look into the conversations that user had with other people. I hightly doubt network admins go around looking for peoples conversations, also, as nalAAlan said, when connecting to a server you do accept their rules and regulations, you really shouldn't worry about things like this. If a network admin has time to look at conversations rather then caring for the network, thats just kinda creepy. I have never been to that network, if its a large network, i highly doubt the conversations are looked at all the time. That would be a pain in the ass for any IRC Operator or Admin to deal with. Its no differnt then AIM's Terms of Service read that sometime.

i checked out the server for a few mins and the most active none xdcc channel had 33 users on it whereas the XDCC channel had over 800 in it. It should be removed from the list simply because it looks like the servers primary purpose is xdcc and nothing else.

Regarding spying, what do you expect from a network which serves illegal files from what are usually illegal compromised computers?

Again, the point of the server list is as an objective resource.
