I'm unable to reproduce this problem here, under different version of Windows. Which version of Windows are you using? Have you tried testing this with a clean intall of mIRC?

that help button (if you mean the [?] button which is sometimes in the titlebar on the right) isn't there by default (winxp sp2) so probably added by some 3rd party program... I doubt the problem is in mIRC itself

If it ain't broken, don't fix it!

Let me clear a few things up on this. First I'm talking about the Help button to the right of the Cancel button on the mIRC Options Dialog Box.

I'm running Windows XP Home with all the latest patches and have mIRC installed in c:\Program Files\mIRC

This was not a new install but an upgrade.

Sorry, I did a clean install in both c:\mirc and c:\Program Files\mirc and the help button works just fine. So guess it's a upgrade issie or I did something wrong on my end.

I found what the issue was. Because I'm a blind user and can't read the default mIRC Help File I decode it and re-create it as a .chm file that I can see. If this .chm file is named mirc.chm and placed in the $mircdir then the error message will appear each time you click on any Help Button in the Options and Scripts Dialogs. Remaning the .chm file to anything other than mirc.chm fixes the issue.

I hope one day the mirc and the faq help files will be updated so they use windows color schemes so that this is no longer and issue for us who are not totally blind but have very poor eyesight and use high contrast color schemes in windows.

Right, mIRC v6.2 by default looks for an mirc.chm version of mirc.hlp, and if it can't find it, it uses mirc.hlp, that's the reason for the behaviour you spotted :-) I will be distributing the help file as a .chm file in the next version or two. I'll see what I can do about using the default Windows color scheme for the next version.
