I recently installed windows XP Pro and found a problem when using mirc. Basically the combination of XP and mirc causes excessive system lagg when switching between channels which have background images apx larger than 400K, notable effects include lagg within mirc, sound output (ie winamp) and a "sticky" mouse.

FIX: the quick fix thus is to not use images larger than apx 400K. Use jpeg (jpg) images as the file sizes are considerably smaller than bitmap (bmp)

This "bug" occured in both mirc versions 5.91 and 6.03 when running windows XP Pro on a 800mhz duron with 576mb ram.

WinNT 4.0 Celeron 400mhz 192mb mIRC 6.03
Tried with diffrent approx. 1mb jpgs, some lagging occured but only to mIRCs channel buttons. Get yourself an OS.

Code:
//if ( khaled isgod ) echo yes | else echo no

I have an OS, and a rather good one, seeing as it hasn't crashed for several months..

But still, when you use pictures as a channel background it makes your system lag? So is this mIRCs fault?

//if ( khaled isgod ) echo yes | else echo no

Well since everything else works fine it's a good bet it's a problem with the way mirc handles background images.

If I had to guess at what the problem with mIRC in this case was, I'd say that it's not "caching" the pictures, and that each time you switch to another channel it reloads the picture from scratch instead of loading it from the mIRC cache or temp memory, so that might be slowing it down.

Thats my thought too, i imagine its a bug within mirc given the overall revamp and different structure of XP as it works fine with FAT32/9x based windows OS's, like its using old techniques to cache which arent working due to the overhaul of and conversion to an NT based system
