Would be helpful if you enabled use of a very larg notify list. In current release 6.12, one risks being seen as flooding. Also, if 10 names pop up on the notify, only 3 or 4 will have an automatic /w. thanks...

If by /w you mean do a /whois on the nicks on your notify, you have to check the box for perfom /whois on the nick when you add it to your notify list (or go back and edit it). You should only use this option if you really need to, if you use it with too many nicknames then the IRC server might disconnect you for flooding. (btw, flooding is a server issue, not something mIRC can change)

If you use the command instead of adding someone in the addy book, prefix the nickname with a + sign, then mIRC will do a /whois on the nickname as part of the notify.

In any mIRC window, type /help notify list to read all the info (or alt + b, click on notify, and click on the HELP button)

While on the topic of notify lists,
I think it would be a good idea if mirc checked for nicks in the notify list in channels that you are on before it asked the server if they are on the network, just seems silly to perform the ison nick when they are sitting in the same channels as you or, the same if you are using one of the nicks in your notify list

from the help file (/help notify list) :
Some IRC networks might let you use a full address instead of just a nickname, the only way to see if it works is to try it out.
