Find a network which uses ip hashing, anything running CR (Conference Room) will probably be doing this. I think austnet also does it.

Your basic problem isn't hiding your IP - there are still a million ways to get it for the determined. You need a firewall to help with the security side of things - Google can help you there.

A firewall blocks all connections to your computer UNLESS YOU EXPLICITLY SAY ITS OK.

It might take some fooling around to configure it so IRC is ok, and HTTP, and any instant messengers

Where could I find a good firewall? I had one that was friggin awesome called.. umm..'cyn'something or something like that... since I reformatted they went out of bussiness and I just haven't bothered since I didn't do much with my comp...
But now I run mail, web, and irc servers from a network so I guess it'd be smart to get one again, huh?

anything running what some call masked host would be a safe bet ..... not just CR uses this ..... also anything using Unreal is capable of it ... or u can do what some ppl do by purchasing a shell to run a bnc ....... really tho whats the point .....

I know one thing, I feel alot safer with a hashed hostmask than I do with a fully exposed one. Every time I visit one of the big networks I get increased firewall activity due to al the kiddiez with their port scanners and other l337 h4x0r1ng 700lz

Get the free Zonealarm. Better still pay a small fee and get Zonealarm Pro.

true i see the same things ... but thats what the zonealarm pro is for ...... and as i said CR is not the only one who uses this cloaking algorythms (sp) to mask a part of the ip of a user ...... Unreal is another one ...... i think your missing the true intent of the post ..... the user asked how to hide his ip from mIRC, obviously an error since ppl wouldnt want to hide thier own ip from themselves..... but they meant more to the point of hiding it from other users ...... if they chat in these bigger nets with non cloaked hostmasks then thier only alternative is to start spending money on a BNC or the like
