Hi.

Lately I'm having trouble with DDE. I've got two mIRCs, one version 6.21 and another 6.16. I can't seem to enable either DDE. Regardless of the DDE name, I get the * DDE name 'Zyzzyx226' is in use | * /ddeserver: DDE initiation failed message.

Any ideas? Could it be a script, or maybe a computer setting?

Thank you,

Zyzzy.

If I type /ddeserver on Zyzzyx26 I get that message. I can't even turn it on - that's the problem. That happens in any mIRC I open, old or new version.

What do you have for security programs on your computer? Firewalls, antivirus, antispyware, etc.? Anything that is loaded and may try to prevent DDE to protect your computer. I think there may be an option in Windows to disable DDE as well, though I have no idea where since I don't use DDE. It works fine here and I have XP Pro SP2.

You may also want to check through any scripts that are loaded in case there is an issue with those.

I use firewall and antivirus, but they have never interfeered with DDE. I havent altered anything, that I recall, that can mess with that. Any idea what settings those might be? I tried Windows help with DDE and the one msg I got was "cannot connect to DSDM service" or something. (Start > Run and type "ddeshare")

???

I tried disabling my firewall and AV, but that had no effect. I'm out of ideas, and I do use it a lot.

Alright, this is bugging me. After the restore, it worked. I then rebooted the computer and it's not working again.

Does anyone have any clues about the issue? I've got the feeling it's an XP setting, correct?

It could very well be caused by something that was installed or updated. Look back to see what change(s) were made between the time it originally worked and the time it first stopped working.
