i hope this topic comes to the attention of Khaled or anyone who could shed some light on this, i'm simply looking for the algorithm used by $hash() for a little project im doing

You can check out qwerty's post containing the algorithm in C, but be aware that if you're counting on it being an effective hash algorithm that it does have some significant shortcomings (assuming the post is correct, I don't think I ever checked).
