The "IRCv3 Working Group" website at http://ircv3.org lists several major networks and clients as participants, including mIRC. I was curious how active mIRC is in this participation and if there is any interest in the group's recent proposals.

mIRC seems to support some of the IRCv3. I MIGHT be wrong on some of these, so please don't quote me. As far as interest, that would be up to Khaled to answer.

At the time of this post:

Base Extensions

IRC Version 3.1: Capability Negotiation - 7.0 (Not exactly sure when this was added?)
IRC Version 3.1: multi-prefix Extension - 7.0
IRC Version 3.1: sasl Extension - Need script to do SASL (Only one I know of does PLAIN)

Optional Extensions

IRC Version 3.1: account-notify Extension - Enter: /CAP REQ account-notify
IRC Version 3.1: away-notify Extension - Enter: /CAP REQ away-notify
IRC Version 3.1: extended-join Extension - Enter: /CAP REQ extended-join
IRC Version 3.1: tls Extension - Not sure/didn't test

Base Extensions

IRC Version 3.2: Message Tags - Not supported
IRC Version 3.2: Message Intents - Not supported
IRC Version 3.2: Metadata - Not supported
IRC Version 3.2: monitor Extension - 7.31 See this

Optional Extensions

IRC Version 3.2: server-time Extension - Not supported
IRC Version 3.2: batch Extension - Not supported
IRC Version 3.2: userhost-in-names Extension - Planned See this
IRC Version 3.2: chghost Extension - Not supported

Again, I MIGHT be wrong on some of these.

I'm mostly interested in whether mIRC is an active participant in extension development. It isn't clear to me whether IRCv3 is simply an Atheme project that lists clients and networks who happen to have implemented or contributed to some of their ideas over the years or if really has has the ongoing participation of entities like mIRC. The websites implies the latter.

Technically, mIRC is not actively participating in ircv3 development, however I have been contacted by a number of people over the years (I am sorry to say that, due to the number of emails I receive, I sometimes do not reply. I cannot remember if some of them were connected to atheme.org) asking me to take part and/or to implement support for various ircv3 extensions, some of which I have added over time. The atheme developers have clearly spent time and effort putting a process into place in an attempt to engage a wide range of IRC players, as well as developing and documenting the new extensions, which is commendable and I will be adding support for a few more CAP features in the next version.

Thanks for the reply. I'm glad it has the support of major players like mIRC.
