I could have sworn I'd seen something on this a few months back, but I can't seem to find it. frown

I'm just wondering what's up with the forum and how it messes with daylight savings time? I'm in eastern US (GMT -5) and we are now off of daylight savings time.

Normally I end up switching between -5 and -4 depending on daylight savings in forums that don't adjust for DST. The strange thing is that right now, I have to set it to -6 for the time to be correct in here.

The number should go from -5 to -4 in the summer if the forum doesn't adjust for DST.

Any ideas what is up with this? Was the forum timezone set up incorrectly? I just noticed it today.

Yeah. The GMT managed by this server is off by +2 hours. I have to set my time zone to -9 hours, when it should be -7 for PDT.

The time difference you can set has nothing todo with the difference between your timezone and GMT. As the option says, it is the difference with the "Current server time", which is about 2 hours ahead of GMT. Quite logical with the server being located in the Netherlands. grin

I see... I personally think that the server should be set to GMT+2 then (if there is an option in UBB to tell the board that it's +2... if not, UBB should add that option as most boards have it) so that people can use the correct timezone for their area, or else set the server at GMT+0. Still, that's just my opinion. smile

I guess I just took for granted that the time used as a reference was GMT, since that seems to be the most logical way to manage the time difference.

Now, imagine that you move this server to Australia; every board user would have to change their offset, unless, of course, everything is automatically adjusted based on the timezone of the server, in which case I don't see why it doesn't use GMT as the reference. It's illogical.

I doubt it will ever move out of the Netherlands, but I agree. smile

I think the idea is so that all local files/logs/etc have the correct time on them for him (or whoever runs the server). Personally, I think making things easier for "customers" is better than making things easier for the "company". Yes, we aren't customers and the forum isn't a company, but the idea is the same. smile

Either way, I can leave it being off 2 hours. Just was wondering what was up and now I know. laugh
