1. No idea.

2. It's like DCC.

3. MTS stands for "mIRC theme standard", you have a script that interprets .mts files and prints text to the screen (the text is based on whatever is in the .mts file), so you can create themes without them clashing with other themes, KTE is an MTS engine (loads MTS themes).

As an added note:

1. That is up to them, there is probably no specific reason. Also, CR being worse than Unreal is a matter of opinion, not fact smile

2. XDCC is a 'form' of DCC I guess, but it's not an actual protocol to the best of my knowledge. It's 99% of the time used as a way to trade illegal files (mp3s, movies, software and so on) and also usually involves lots of XDCC bots which provide the files.

3. More info on MTS can be found here where you can ask questions and see what others have asked.

1 add question, i use old script that uses old script engine (from 2001) and uses ON EVENT theme

like this:

theme {
tokenize 32 $1-
goto $1

:name | return Emerald

:logo | return 3 ?9?3
:times | return 09(03 $+ $replace($left($time,5),:,09:03) $+ 09)

:nickme | return 3 ?9? 3Nick changed to9 $+ $3
:nick | return 9Nick:9 $2 3changes nick to 9 $+ $3
:joinme | return 9ยป 3You have join9 $2 $+ 9.
:joins | return 9Join:9 $2 9(3 $+ $replace($3,@,9@3 $+ ) $+ 9)3 joins9 $4

etc...

now, will MTS work on such script good or it depends on script engine/core ?

and where to download this KTE script that chages these temes ?

as far as i know, unrealircd is free up to 1000 users, for more one has to pay. i cant understand why anyone would pay for an ircd, when there are many free ones out there. just look at what the big nets use, this isnt unreal or CR, and for good reason. cool

All IRCd's have their strong and weak points. Alot of commercial entities pay for software rather than using free alternatives because it is good business sense (in their view) to do so. Buying a CR Enterprise licence provides you with the software + warranty + support at almost any hour. Buying any other commercially marketed IRCd, and there's a few of them, offers the same package.

CR is a good product and I have opered on a network that runs it on Windows servers quite sucessfully for a number of years. People who cannot budget for it will call it a lame setup but often through ignorance than a knowledge of the facts as was highlighted in another post. It's very easy to be cynical about something you can't afford but when you actually use something for a long time you tend to believe in it.

CR is used by dozens of ISPs for their local IRC services. The big networks will never use it, largely for two reasons:

1. Conservative ownership - As I said, use something for long enough and you'll believe in it. The big networks are old and when conceived the only way to run IRC was on Unix and using something like Hybrid or Dreamforge.
2. Affordability. Where would the large networks ge the money to run commercial software on, collectively, hundreds of servers. It's just not going to happen.

As Mentality rightly put it, whether something is good comes down to personal opinion, not the facts as they stand. Ultimately if an organisation is in a position to choose between free and commercial they will first look at the feature set. If the free product is good enough, feature-wise, and the organisation doesn't require warranties or support then they will probably use something like Unreal or Ultimate or Bahamut or whatever. The owner of the network I use, for example, requires functions that only CR provides, even other commercial products don't offer what they are looking for as a whole. As Bigpond is Australia's biggest ISP and is owned by a corporation with a capitalisation of $120bn, half a dozen CR licences and some serious servers to run them on amounts to playlunch money for them. They'd spend the same amount of money on a corporate wine-tasting function.

I don't know why the name 'raw' but all raws are are the various messages sent by the server to you and other chatters.

I would guess it is because the information is "raw", that is, without being processed.

Just my guess,

Cheers,

There were issues with the .com address, I have no idea what those issues were. They seem to be all sorted now though smile - The mirc.co.uk etc. domains worked fine throughout!
