Ok I have just moved into halls/dorms, i am connected to a network to access the internet, i am sure i am behind a proxy server or some sort of firewall.. i cannot connnect to any sites on mirc, but i do know i can connect to one ftp site, which is my university site which is irrelevant but i am assuming i can connect to sites.. but i am guessing they have blocked me or some how not letting me bypass through to any other sites other then my university ftp site... i just need some information on how to go about getting around this:

Can you just access the university webpage? If so, you don't have a full internet connecten yet. That means you have to talk to your university's network administrators. If you can access webpages, email, ... outside of your unversity network than try another irc server port, e.g. 6666. Most irc networks offer more than just one port.
