since I installed version 6.x of mirc (I used to use 5.something) I noticed that sound requests no longer work for mp3 files
in my sounds dir I have mp3s that were played when someone else used the /sound command (we both had the same mp3 files) but now it tells me * Sound request: cannot find 'hello.wav'
it's the same for any other sound
it seems that mirc doesn't look for .mp3 files in the sounds folder anymore but just .wav files
any ideas?

Mp3 is supported, check, ALT + O - Sounds - Requests options and ensure the directory settings for each type of file are correct.

Yes. mIRC assumes that (and I don't know why) any file name with spaces is a wav file unless you use inverted commas in the /sound command.

EG:
/sound "Mark Latham will never be PM.mp3" will play as an MP3 file (or should)
/sound Mark Latham will never be PM.mp3 will try to play as 'Mark.wav'

@Watchdog: Your call the ": inverted commas? That's interesting!

The stressed us in school to call them '(double) quote or quotation mark.

there is not a single file that has spaces, so that can't be the problem...

is there a space in the path? (c:\programspacefiles\mirc\sounds)

there was, indeed, but again no luck
It was D:\Program Files\mirc\sounds and then I moved the whole mirc folder to the root of D:\ and adjusted the paths in mirc so the sound folder is D:\mirc\sounds but I still get the error * Sound request: cannot find 'hello.wav'

I'm really lost...the file hello.mp3 is really in the sounds folder, the paths are correct and there are no spaces whatsoever... confused

Inverted commas, 66 99, quotation marks, quotes, etc - choose your own adventure. grin
