For some reason the only network in the entire IRC conglomeration of networks I can connect to is Dalnet. Every other network is unresolvable or the connecion times out. Whats wrong?

I'm on XP SP2 mirc 6.16

I wouldn;'t be suprised if the problem is SP2. Heard so many evil stories about it, I'm not touching that thing with a 1000000 ft pole.

Although i'm doubting its SP2 since one network works but the rest do not, which wouldnt be happening if it was infact SP2, however, try turning off the built in SP2 firewall and see if that helps any.

W00t a person after my own heart! smile

Probably has something to do with SP2 firewall settings.

Nope no difference.

Connecting to other networks worked early last week, (and I've had SP 2 since it was on MS's website in mid-august)
than it just stopped working.

and SP2 is nice. The IE popup blocker is great but lets stay on topic.

For the networks that are unresolvable what happens if you DNS them elsewhere, either with /dns or another program? If it works what happens if you use the IP addresses?

What happens when you traceroute to another server's ip? Are you able to connect to any IRC servers on other common ports such as :80, :22, :21? As some dalnet servers are restricted to peering partners only, perhaps your ISP has inadvertently restricted IRC-bound connections to dalnet alone when trying to comply.

First off I'd check your mIRC installer's CRC is 2AFD6A5E, if it's not re-download. There was a bad mirror up around a month ago which you might have downloaded from. Whether that was right or not I'd run a virus/trojan scan using some of the more IRC-centric scanners (Norton, McAfee, etc. can be really crap at finding IRC-related stuff sometimes). If none of that comes up with anything then I'm out of ideas unless you happen to know of something that's changed in your connection (ISP, networks, routers, firewalls, etc.)
