Forums mIRC Help joining a new server

this may be a simple fix and usually is ...while on a server i go to join another and it wont allow me to use primary nick
i rt click tray icon and click connect then click new server window when i join its with my alternate nick
any suggestions ? thx

Is your main nick already in use on the new server?

ill have to check i can change my current nick to the alternate then try to go into new server

that didnt work i went in under alternate nick then tried to change with no sucess
i also run a keep my nick script
maybe someone is there with that nick

i sorry my thoughts were to try and not realizing want you were asking ..it does say nick is already in use
i could sit in new server until nick script retrieves my nick when they sign off i guess

On most of the big networks there is no right to 'own' a nickname, and it's first come first serve. On some networks however you can register a nickname so that only you may use it - and if someone else does use it, you can 'ghost' them (kill them off the server). Ask in the #Help channel of the network you use to see if they support nickname registration.

If someone else is using the nickname you normally use however, you will need to just wait. You could use a script to change over automatically when the nick goes offline, see /help on unotify.

i aswsered my own question i did a "/whois" in the status page of the new server and found it in use
