with all Identifiers having path, if there are two space stuck (Ex: File<space><space>Test.txt), its does not function even with $shortfn and $+(",<file>,")

Sorry for my English:P

hi,

confirmed on winxp pro, mirc 6.16.
looks like 2 or more spaces are reduced to a single space.
"test<two spaces>test.txt" and "test<three spaces>test.txt" etc wont work;
"test<one space>test.txt" is working.

mIRC has handled double spaces like this for as long as I can remember. I don't really see it as a bug, or a reason for file names to contain double spaces. In my opinion, it's more logical to repair the file name yourself than it is to change mIRC's behavior.

i don't think so.
names like "test<1..n spaces>test.txt" etc are quite unusual indeed, but still legal...
shouldn't mirc be able to handle all possible filenames?
what if you cannot "repair" the filename for some reason?

No one should have allowed filenames to contain spaces in the first place...

I've always known that to cause more trouble than it'll ever be worth.

My advice: do as I do and never use spaces in filenames. Nor accented letters or any of that crap. With the possibility of 255 characters in a filename, abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyzABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ0123456789_-. should more than suffice to form an adequate number of unique filenames in a single directory. (Or even with only 26 letters on case insensitive filesystems.)

but someone did allow it, and that's it...

that's a just matter of style.
i personally don't use spaces, accents etc too, but still mirc should be able to cope with it.

This workaround example should help: renaming double-spaced filenames
