This was recently discussed on the mircscripts.org forum but I thought I'd raise it here.

Other than either using another program or COM objects, mIRC has no known way of renaming folders. I suppose you could create a new folder with the new folder name, and copy all the contents from the old folder to the new folder, then delete the old folder. Although, that is by no means an efficient way of doing things.

I don't really concider it to be a vital command, but I'm sure quite a lot of people would benefit from its presence.

Another useful command to be added would be /deltree (or just extended /remove), for wiping folders. as for now, it can be done this way.

/deltree is a very destructive command in the wrong hands though...

I would tend to agree about /deltree being destructive, but maybe it could have a dialog prompt open (like the one with the /exit command if you make mIRC confirm your exits) when the command is called. This could possibly be overthrown with a switch. It could also be added as one of mIRC's lockable commands (like /run and /dll already are), and the command could be made so it cannot be called by events. So it can only be called if the user types the command directly into the editbox.

and here comes the old topic "which one we prefer: security or extended features" smile
Personally I want the last, but not every user is experienced enough, and there are so many harmfull coders out there...
erm, I want both?!?!

And all I need now is intellectual intercourse, a soul to dig the hole much deeper

That's true, but considering it's already possible through /run, or, if user locked it, through COM objects, why not to add an internal support?

I think that extended lock dialog, as suggested before, would be the best way of protecting yourself against malicious stuff.
