Forums mIRC Help What is a "poolname" and where do you find it?

I'm trying to download something off MIRC and it requires that I input a poolname. The problem is I have no Idea where to find the proper one. I know how I'm supposed to type in the request: /ctcp USER_NAME xdcc POOLNAME get #1
I would appreciate any help thanks alot!

I think the phrases "download something off MIRC" and "XDCC" caused starbucks to put that answer and, from what I see at the moment, it's an answer I agree with.

XDCC is renowned to provide illegal files and I've never seen nor heard of XDCC providing other sorts of files. I'm almost certain the theme of 'mass sharing' is consistent whatever the case.

I am unaware of what (a) 'poolname' is.

Well, the person is wanting to know what to do to get a file. Be it legit or not. They are looking to get a file from another user that is made available to everyone who wants it. Thus making it sharing.

Filesharing can relate to any picture of a friend, a text file, porn, movies, or music file that you can get from another. So the point that Starbuck's is making is that if (and I emphasize the word if) this person is looking to get a file that may be labeled as "illegal", no help will be given. From what I understand that's a general rule on the forum.

But if this person wants to know how to get a legit file from a friend then I guess it is up to him/her to point that out so that everyone doesn't start ranting on morality and legal reprocussions depending on jurisdiction.

I realized that a good 90% of the files on XDCC are illegal but that doesn't mean that all of em are, or that the Idea behind it isn't legal. So it is still ok for me to ask. I would really appreciate an answer. Thanks

I am still unaware of what a poolname is, and I am still unaware of whether you're attempting to get an illegal file (read The_Game's last paragraph).

As an FYI, I'm not saying every form of XDCC is illegal, nor the idea behind it - however, as starbucks said, as a general rule we don't help with mass/illegal file sharing because of the reputation mIRC is quickly gaining as a mass file trading program - It isn't, and obviously helping with it here gives off the wrong impression to visitors and new helpers.

TBH, the best advice you're going to be able to get is ask the person who is sending to you. If you're getting a file from an XDCC bot, then ask another (non-bot) op (@) in the channel and see if they can help, or someone else in general who is in the channel.

Well read the question. He's not talking about the hostname of a server-pool, he specifically states 'I know how I'm supposed to type in the request: /ctcp USER_NAME xdcc POOLNAME get #1' which makes it clear that the poolname involves filesharing.

Even if the files you're trying to get are legal, mIRC is still not a filesharing program, and this question has nothing whatsoever to do with mIRC. You might as well post it on your ISPs forums, or on Logitech's forums if you use one of their keyboards for that matter.
