I had this addon idea tonight and dont know if anyone has attempted it, but it seemed like a decent idea.

Basically when you click on a posted URL, it would be grabbed and stopped so it doesnt load right away.

Then a dialog would pop up with the site loaded into the WC3 HTML verifier

The addon would be scripted to search for specific malicious things such as:

installs, javascript, inline frames, redirects, etc..

mark them as found, in red, etc.. let you know if the site is safe

then you could click a button labeled VIEW SITE on the dialog to THEN go see the site...

When Windows XP SP2 will be released (not the Release Candidate) this summer, you'll see, this problem will be solved as IE won't download anything without asking your permission, it's the samething for the automatic program installs, so it blocks them until you Accept.

Easier solution: use a decent browser.

Personally thats not the point,
what browser one is using.. the point is the idea for the addon for creativities sake and so forth.
I think it's a good idea.

The enjoyment of programming, in which ever language you choose, comes from being creative with your ideas and the challange of achieving them. Sounds quite interesting to me, go for it!
