I'm not 100% sure, but i think the only way you can change someone else's nick is being an Oper (IRCop).

Depending on the IRCd you are using..

Do a /raw help
and see if some commands come up

Look for something like "chgnick" or "fnick" etc.

if you can use operserv's raw command and are using an ircd like "unreal ircd" or "ultimate ircd" then you can do
Code:
/operserv raw svsnick oldnick newnick :0

you could also try asking ur "friend" how to do it

Just one little thing... I am sorry if you already know this... but you have to be Server Admin, not channel operator. And, that is not all you have to be, you must be U:Line:
U:lines are entries which define what addresses are allowed to log on as a server, as opposed to being logged on as a user or as an ircop/netadmin.
And then:
svsnick - changes a user's nick.
Example: svsnick Clueless HaveAClue - changes nick Clueless to HaveAClue.
This is the command that servers use to relay nick changes to each other.

Sorry if you knew this. shocked
Note: That's for Unreal IRCD.

Well for unreal you personaly dont have to be ulined you just have to run a services like anope, and send the command to operserv IE my /os raw svsnick
os is a alias for operserv if you have the anope.conf alias loaded into the conf

both milosh & Rockstrady are correct

either way... not just anyone is able to perform this command

either via IRCop SVSnick command which requires a U:line
or via operserv, which requires you to be a Services Admin with superadmin enabled

As mentioned, only certain people have access to do that. And no regular user can override or prevent those people from doing what they want. If you happen to be on a network where they abuse this power, then you're stuck with living with it or leaving.
