Evening & hello all. Tho I am not new to Mirc, This is the very first time i have ever used a discussion board EVER! My wife bought me a new Dell for Christmas and it has Windows Xp Pro in it. My question is this. Will mIRC be compatible, are there any problems that any of you are familiar with. Should I continue to use my older system (which has Win 98 SE) to connect and chat with?? Would appreciate any & all help, wink

yes mirc is compatible but what you may want to do is disable the built in firewall that comes with the operating system....i had alot of trouble with DCC because of it.....as soon as i disabled it...everything was fine

yes i definatly suggest disabling the firewall built into xp cause for me i actually couldnt stay online for more than acouple hours at a time till i disabled mine ..... mirc and everything including msn messanger would go offline for a moment and then try to reconnect ..... sometimes it would take till i timed out and didnt realize i was disconnected ...... but other than that ive had no issues with xp pro running mirc at all

I have windows xp pro, and I cannot idel eather. I dont have any firewall software, and the build in firewall is disabled. Why can I not idel? I mean, i made a script that will msg myself ever min, and close it just as fast without me noticing, but hey, that gets kinda agravating, having your status window flooded with /msg's.

i added port 113 for identd as well and still to no avail ive used it for 6 months now and everyday im at work for eight hours it disconnects atleast 2 times ..... im on a network and every other pc in the house is not on chat but they dont have the problem because the firewall in xp isnt enabled they are behind a linksys router ..... mine isnt behind the router yet it disconnects ...... not just from chat but entirely from the internet ...... msn messanger disconnects everything ...... i dont think its a mirc issue as it wouldnt affect msn im ..... just wondering if anyone else had the same problem and got around it ..... im on cable modem with a hub going into 2 linksys routers that distrubute connections throughout my network and my pc is off one of the hub links coming directly from the cable modem .... so i have a different ip than the network itself does .... xp pro with sp1 had this problem from the day i upgraded from win98se to xp pro

anyhow just wanted to let others who might have this problem they arnt alone

there have been many posts/threads here and in the old board over this issue. i dont know why XP users get so many 10053 disconnects, but several ppl have told me that it only happens when they have the firewall enabled or on certain servers. So nope, you arent alone.
