Channel events such as modes being set, bans, joins, parts, quits, etc. can sometimes dominate a whole channel window and make it difficult to follow a conversation in a channel, especially after a flood or a netsplit. At the same time, channel operators need to manage a channel and need the event information to be visible to acount for all activities. One idea I had for facilitating a chat experience in a channel without removing the events from the channel would be to split the channel window into two sections (split horizontally or vertically), one having just the chatting, and the other all of the channel events for that channel. The ability to move the partition up and down or left and right to distribute the two areas according to personal taste would be a nice touch, as well as the choice of whether top or bottom is for chatting or the events .
