I'm an old time mIRC user, and have built some fairly complex popup files containing many citations relevant to the topic of the IRC channel I manage. For over a year I have avoided going to mIRC 6.x since, when I first tried, it messed up my scripts. I have finally done so, and worked through all the issues, but ONE. I do hope some of you tremendously bright folks can help me figure this one out.

Problem: my control menus are all connected to the nick list: prior to upgrading all I had to do was highlight a nick, right click, and up came my controls for kicking, banning, displaying some kind of banner, CTCP, etc. and etc. When you want to move fast and kick a lamer, you need that menu to appear quickly. Well, with every version 6.x I've seen, when you right-click anywhere at all in the nick list, an input box opens marked 'PrivateMsg'. When I cancel or close it, my menu appears. How on earth do I get rid of that utterly annoying input box? I have searched and searched and read help files and checked settings and examined my files....I have given up. Can anyone help me here? Thanks!

You seem to have a scripting problem there!

Like you, I use the nicklist menu for an awful lot of stuff, but I've upgraded release by release for the last several years - and so far, no problem at all, and certainly no input box.

Don't suppose it could be linked to the Options/Mouse options?

I have never had that issue with any mIRC version. If I understand you correctly, when you right click the nicklist a menu pops up saying 'PrivateMsg' and then when you click out of that you get the menu you want?

If that's right, although it's very strange, I suggest you search for the word "PrivateMsg" in your nick list popups script editor. I know you said you're an old time user, so you probably know this, but for the safety's sake and to make sure I don't have to post again for no reason:

ALT+P > View > Nick List then click on 'Find Text'.

If it turns anything up, then that might eb causing the issues - delete whatever it is.

To check out what PastMaster suggested, ALT+O > Mouse and then look next to 'Nick List' - by default it says '/query $$1' - don't quite see how this would affect you since you're not double-clicking as far as I see, but fingers crossed!

Hope you get it sorted smile

Thanks, that was it: I finally gave up, inserted the "clean" popups.ini from a fresh installation, and then copied in what I had built over time. Finally found a single line that was pulling that up, though, to be honest, I haven't the *foggiest* why. :-) Thanks again.
