hello:

i have a problem i hope someone can help me with. I am running mirc 6.03 trying to open 30 or more socket connections at once.

I did that on 2 systems.
on one sytem with the slower CPU and slower SDRAM it's working without a prob, yet on my new computer with faster CPU and 1024MB DDRAM 333 it's freezing mirc for about 5-6 seconds. this also happens if i connect alot of sockets at once.

since it was running fine on my older system i am wondering whether i have something configured wrong in my windows,
(network settings,windows)?

OS: Windows 2000 Advanced Server

thanks for any answers smile

it could be an inherent hardware/configuration problem (a few socket scripts of mine crash my friends mIRC in windows 2000 for no reason), or maybe you're running a firewall/packetsniffer on the second machine which is making your system sluggish under heavy traffic?

do things return to normal if you CTRL + Break in mIRC during the lockups/freezes? Often parsing (and displaying) lots of data (like a /LIST output on IRC) will cause a socket to lock mIRC up entirely.

Hope that helps. smile

Just curious -- why on earth would you open 30+ sockets at once???

for creating a room on msn chat, they have very restricted input flooding limits, so i loop through the sockets finding the one being idle the longest.
this way i can do it fast anyway.

I am using the same Software (Firewalls etc..)
on this Computer as i did on the other...

thanks smile
