i think it wouldn't be to much to ask for if mirc supported strikethrough (ctrl+S?), Italics (Ctrl+I?), and flashing (Ctrl+F?) color control codes. another thing i found diassapointing: the inverse color control code dosent inverse teh colors...it sets them to white on black. think it would be nice if you had red on green and you type ctrl+r it did green on red, etc.

Well, flashing text would be EXTREMELY annoying. I don't see a need for italics or strikethrough and have never heard of any other client supporting them.

well, im trying to make a mud client and since i was having to make my own ansi parser (mirc wont parse it even though i have it set to translate ansi to mirc color codes) i was hoping to be able to interperet anything the mud servers sent.

Several IRC clients interpret ASCII 22 (mIRC's *reverse* control code) as italics. And I believe xIRCon interprets it as reverse in the way you suggested, but of course xIRCon has been out of development for many years now so it's starting to show it's age. It would be nice if mIRC interpreted it as italics since I think people would typically find that far more useful, but I don't think strikethrough is really all that common and, as madewokherd has already said, flashing text would be incredibly annoying.

it would be easy enough to just strip flashing text, so i dont see how saying something can be annoying should limit it from being there. just another tickbox in /options/irc/messages and its gone

CTRL+I is already a [TAB]
(edit: I just clicked the last 'reply' because this forum lacks a general reply button *sigh*)

Well the point is that it is very annoying very quickly. To flip your argument around: just because something annoying can be stripped doesn't mean it should be added. I mean a control code could be made to mean 'use font verdana, size 42pt', but it doesn't mean it should or that it would be useful for anyone besides trying to piss other people off.
An obvious example of a very similar situation is when a certain web browser implemented a <blink> tag into it's HTML to make flashing text. Everyone (almost everyone) hated the damn thing because it's incredibly distracting and irritating and so it never became even close to becoming part of a standard, whereas things like bold and underline have been a part of the HTML standards from the very beginning because they involve basic text formatting.

just because something annoying can be stripped doesn't mean it should be added your argument is flawed, becuase you injected it with a personal biase "annoying". Ansi had blinking text, you could enable it and disable it in alot of programs that were used to access BBS's where i last used ansi, i never found it a problem, but then I DONT FIND PEOPLE TYPING LIKE THIS ANNOYING EITHER, so must just be im easy going on some things.

Remove the word 'annoying' and the point is still equally valid.
