When transferring files I notice that the transfer rate is slow and even sometimes goes below.05kb/s and times out. Is there a cap on the amount of kbs you can transfer? Or do the irc servers spread the bandwidth among the users transferring files?

Try reading this thread - it's not *exactly* the same problem as yours, however, it does supply relevant information.

It's always good to use the Search feature before posting, as many topics have been covered already. This topic is particuarly popular (unfortunately in some ways) and has been covered in many Forums. Expand to 'All Forums' and expand the date range to 'All Posts' for best results when using it.

G'luck!

Regards,

I have tried the search function and searched 3 different times and nothing was explaining about my question. Can't you just answer it? heh

When using the search feature, set it to all forums and expand the date range. Its best to limit the search term and be as specific as possible. In this case i would try terms like transfer or speed or bandwidth to start with. Actually there are a lot of threads on the subject.

Many things could cause what you report.
-some addons have been reported as doing this
-win98 has a built in memory leak, as well as a vcache issue in the event thats what you use
-so called speed patches can cause it
-your isp could have limits in place to prevent bandwidth hogging
-you could be doing too much at the same time
-the sender could be limiting transfer
-the sender could have a problem or be doing too much thats intensive at the same time

Well, I used "bandwidth" to search and came up with quite a few results - one thread I referred to you with the link ("this thread" link). If that did not help, read what ParaBrat posted and if that didn't help re-post.

We're all volunteer helpers here - all of us. So comments like "Can't you just answer it? heh" seem a little condescending and rude, even if that's now how you meant it.

Anyway, hope ya get your problem sorted soon, good luck! smile
