sometimes (rarely.. maybe once a month) when i minimise mirc it disappears from the system tray, but the process is still running in task manager

[winxp, xp1600+, mirc 6.03-(6.12 also has the problem)]

i think its a problem with cpu usage.. when the cpu usage is high this will happen - clicking minimise, the program will stall for a second, the icon will then appear in the system tray then the program will just disappear from everything except the task manager

cpu intensive programs such as ad-aware seem to make this happen (i have tested it and can duplicate the occurance). is there going to be a fix for this in future versions? its been around for yonks

someone stated that you could bring the window back by typing in <a href="irc://anything" target="_blank">irc://anything</a> into start/run or an explorer window, but this is still inconvenient

thanks.

Confirmed.. I use mIRC 6.12 on Win98SE(333mHZ) and at me that happens 3-4 times.. And Yesterday too! I try to reproduce.. But without success..
To unhide i use a special dos-tool called "Window".. Before use it.. Scan with a Anti-Virus.. Who know who i am.. wink (syntax: window /show mIRC*).

Yeah I agree with sparta, although I only remember this occuring in Windows XP...I don't remember it happening in Windows 98 when I used it, but that was on a computer that would hardly stay up for more than 30 seconds...so who knows!

Anyway, I often find that program icons will just randomly disappear from systray. I first thought this might be some sort of virus, but I am virus-free. Due to this thread, I will now check if there is a link between CPU usage and icons in the systray.

Personally, I do not have the option to put the mIRC icon in the systray checked - for now, you might like to disable this option. If you're concerned of others using the program you can set a password on it (ALT+O > General > Lock) and then use CTRL+Minimise - then when you try to maximise it, the password will be requested.

Happy chatting!

Regards,

Mentality/Chris

Nop, the problem is mIRC&Windows smile Because other programs what use tray remain visible.. And with 6.03 i never get that problem.

Hmm.. Accidental you don't use WinAmp 5 ?
Can that be caused by some software ?
I can't remember what mIRC 6.03 hides like that..

its pretty much all systems, crash a windows explorer and normally the whole lot go down together, then the startbar instance of explorer restarts, and it doesnt have half of the tray icons in it any more, i loose winamp, damon tools, nav, quicktime, mirc etc etc etc. So it may be the explorer not keeping a refrence back to the mirc in question that cuases it to vanish or a bad refrence from mirc, no real idea here, I have had mirc crash and the icon remains untill u move the mouse over it, so theres some level of the code being run or accessed, and when its gone explorer just says, "well hes gone lets kill his icon"

I have Winamp 2.80, but it wasn't running...
I have only running Norton Internet Security and WinRoute
and other classic windows things are running...

It only happens with mIRC... I see it in CTRL+ALT+DEL, but i can't find it smile

That mean the problem is just somewhere in mIRC code..
I was thought what the cause can be other software..

Just to let the people know who dont. Back in the past, I believe it was mIRC 5.91 and before, if explorer died so did the mIRC icon on the taskbar, it was fixed in 6.0, but maybe there is still a bug with it, I dont know, I myself never had a problem with the mIRC icon disappearing from the taskbar after 6.0, I have even crashed explorer.exe to test results and when I started it again the mIRC icon still shows.

I made some tests, too.
naki; I understood you, but it is not related to explorer.exe's crash.
When I maximize & minimize mIRC several times (nearly 4 times) it disappears.
When i minimize my mIRC goes to taskbar...
Try to minimize & maximize mIRC successively...

Windows 2000 Professional with Service Pack 4 and most critical updates, mIRC 6.12, also running Winamp 5, Opera, Microsoft Word and BitTorrent downloading. mIRC is set to minimize to tray without a password, and animate the icon when there is activity. I tested the bug by minimizing mIRC window consecutively 15 times, but the icon always showed up properly in the system tray and disappeared when I double-clicked it to restore the window. Very stable here, couldn't reproduce the problem.

oh i wasnt saying it isnt in mirc, all i trying to say, is those icons can be lost quite easy, i dont think a program controls them after there there, more like it sets up a link back to mirc from explorer, wave the mouse over it and the links used to trigger this or that in the program. Since its not a regualar thing, maybe mircs doing what it should do each time, but explorer looses track, i well say mircs tray icon is quite an active one, most of them just sit there with no animation.

I think I isolated the minimizing problem:

The problem:
Mirc(6.03 and 6.12) closes automatically when I minimize it. But I've noticed that the same symptoms are showing up with other apps too.

Question:
Does everyone or anyone have matrox g450 video card or matrox multidesk or ATI Hydravision installed on there system?

I have two virtual desktops setup using multidesk. But always use desktop 1.
In desktop 1, if I minimize mirc, the mirc app closes. But if I minimize zone alarm, it actually minimizes. But if I close za it still only minimizes and stays active behind the scenes, which is what it should be doing.
In desktop 2, if I minimize mirc, the app acually minimizes like it should. But if I minimize ZA or close ZA, it actually closes but doesn't stay active behind the scenes.
Actually, now that I've been switching btw the two desktops, ZA will close when the close button is pressed on either desktop, although it should really only be placed into the system tray next to the clock and remain active behind the scenes.

My feeling is that it's the matrox multidesk that is causing the mirc minimizing problem to occur. Can anyone confirm that?
