Wouldnt that be nice?
Just a simple patch to fix the dcc-crash bug in 6.x<12.
I guess that almost 40% of the users still use mIRC version 6.03.
I dislike 6.12, and i do not know why... just the feeling of 6.03...

no, that is almost impossible...
i've tries everal, all failed, and that is because the bug crashes mIRC before a script could be run.

The reason people have grown so attached to 6.03 is because another version of mIRC was not released for 1 year. People are point blank refusing to change to mIRC 6.12 despite the fact that there are very few interface changes except for a few moved features (apart from those life-changing "grips" of course *G*) - after 1/2 months, you'd get used to 6.12 aswell and would not like to revert back to 6.03. I hope this doesn't start another "6.03 is better than 6.12 war" heh.

The whole issue about releasing patches for 6.03 and below has been discussed until people's fingers have gone blue and carpal tunnel syndrome has become classed as epidemic. It's not going to happen because 6.12 is the patch, and if people don't use it, you are refusing the patch and putting yourself at an inconvenience.

That said, it is not impossible to protect yourself via scripts against the bug. There are various addons around on script websites such as mircscripts.org. You can of course continue with the perhaps unsatisfactory /ignore -dw * fix. If you're not happy with this, download the patch here smile

Happy chatting!

Regards,

Mentality/Chris

I don't read? Give me 3 non-cosmetic issues that 6.12 has that 6.03 doens't. There aren't any. "I don't like the look and feel" is not a valid excuse for Khaled to go out of his way and write a patch, IMO. There is a "patch", it was named 6.12. Simple.

If you don't like it, you don't have to use it...just don't ask someone else to go out of their way because you refuse to upgrade to a patched version.

13/10/2003 - mIRC v6.12

Changes:
1.Fixed dcc related gpf bug.

Considering that exploit existed in both versions, it WAS a patch.

The main thing people don't like about 6.12 is that popup. The easyest way to fix that pop up is register mirc. Or ignore it. 20 bucks is quite a bit.. But you never know!

Quite a bit? Let's review:

Windows Xp (Home) - $100
Windows Xp (Pro) - $200
Office XP - $400
Norton Antivirus - $69.95

These are all much more expensive, and not only that--yearly costs. (Some even more often). mIRC, for $20, you get an unlimite dlicense to use this product and every release herafter. You can't tell me that $20 is unreasonable.

Additionaly, Khaled is sympathetic to the average user and offers a $10 purchase fee, or for the generous user $40. For a program you can presumably spend so many hours operating, and that many more easily customising, $20 is pocket change.
