Hello,
I am having very strange broblems with the latest version of mirc.
Messages typed in cyrillic or other non-latin scripts are being sent
as a sequence of question marks like ???????????
I can see all incoming messages without any problems. I can
also see the text in the edit box as I type it, but as soon as message
is sent, it turns into ??????????? stuff.
The russian locale is installed. mIRC is configured to use font with
Cyrillic encoding. I am using Windows XP SP1.

Please help!

Thanks,

Vadim

Hm...try:

ALT+O > IRC > Messages

and check the 'SJIS/JIS conversion' box and the 'multibyte characters' box.

G'luck!

-have you tried different fonts

-have you tried changing the default regional setting for non-unicode programs under control panel-->regional settings

Try enabling multibyte characters and switch to a Cyrillic font, but do NOT enable SJIS/JIS conversion. It's meant for Japanese users only, and screws up the text royally.

I have the exact same problem. (oddly enough with the same character set).

My post is in this thread

To me, the problem seams that when the Enter key is hit it is getting converted to single byte characters.

As you type it the text displays as unicode - but as soon as what you typed gets removed from the text box (hitting enter/ctrl+up-down) it gets replaced with single byte characters "?"

I have also tried the Greek & Hebrew character sets (which i also have fonts for) and have the same problem.

I found it works fine in mIRC 5.91 - None of the suggestions in this thread have helped at all.

Setting character set to Cyrillic for non-unicode applications solved the problem for me.
