I believe one essential feature that mIRC has always lacked is a full Unicode support. My OS is set as a Japanese system, but I also speak French and English, therefore I write French, English and Japanese often on mIRC. French has accents in its alphabet (àéê, etc...), however for my system is Japanese, mIRC recognizes accents as other characters and doesn't display them. The same applies to Japanese, as people who can't or don't want to change their whole OS language configuration just to display Japanese are in a fairly troublesome situation. I know I am not alone in this situation, and maybe it has been posted before, but it is a concern, and as far as I know, it would not be a great burden to implant this feature in future versions of mIRC. laugh

Believe me, there are threads about this every month or so.

I personally believe Unicode should be the default encoding in mIRC, seeing as how a majority of IRC users probably use mIRC, and most of these users would want to switch to the new version.

I'm glad other people are interested in this. I use UTF-8 on IRC when I stumble upon other users that have support for it, and I would love to be able to speak in UTF-8 to my mIRC-using friends.

The languages I use on IRC from day to day:

Norwegian
Swedish
English
Japanese

Welcome to mIRC's message board. This has been discussed often, please use our search feature, set it to "all forums" (altho i think most are in features area) and expand the date range to "all posts" and you can use either UTF-8 or unicode as search term. Note Khaled's response on this thread

Full Unicode support would be a fantastic enhancement to the already excellent mIRC.

Actually, the single line box already supports input of Unicode characters, but the channel window, where the conversations take place, cannot display them, showing ? instead.
