here are some suggestions i've made in the past months and weren't added
so i use this case to bring them up again:

1) Hyb7 vchans support
2) Automatically log notifies option in logging dialog
3) Network specific notifies
4) support for identifiers and if statements in dialog tables, like:
if (o isincs $usermode) button blabla ...
or:
button blabla,1,$x $y $h $w, $type
5) introduce a new 005 token and identifier $usermodes
(althought it could be get from 004, not every network returns a (full) list of usermodes)
6) small dialog addition - /did -m/n $dname comboid - should work like /did -n/m works for editboxes, but with combos, like in mIRC channel central dialog - topic combo
7) network specific chan central (I already have mine, but you've promised it!!)
8) one last thing (for now;b) - how about by def setting "hotlinks only when shift key is pressed" BY DEFAULT yes - this can reduce and even stop most of the mIRC based trojans/virusses

I better stop writing before the list gets too big smile

1) Aren't vchans simply duplicate channels? If so how/why doesn't mIRC support them fully?
4) And popups! $iif gets a little tiresome
5) I'd love to see similar behaviour for usermodes as chanmodes - that is, supporting a USERMODES= protocol (and a $usermodes identifier), for totally dynamic flags (then maybe IRCd developers can make umode +s a little tidier).
7) Subfolders would be handy too..

Just my two cents. smile

nope, vchans are "duplicate channels"
one can have as many channels with the same name as he wants, the difference btw them is the creator
when you try to join a chan, and another chan with the same name exists, you get raw 277 with gull list of existing channels, like:
#chan !vasil , #chan !skip , #chan !blabla
and the /join syntax is little changed - /join #chan !key, for example /join #chan !vasil
vchans are great - on networks with no services if anyone takes over yuor chan you can simply create antoher one with hte same name - /CJOIN #chan
even on networks with services they're very usefull - let's say somebody else has taken #cool_chicks and you want it...- just /cjoin it smile
I like the vchans idea pretty much, but without support from the clients it would behard enough for (not so advanced) users to menage them (even join them)
what i'm asking about is a dialog that pops up and asks you which of the available vchans would you like to join
and tho it isn't very hard to script one, I think this should be included in mIRC

you've got it all wrong smile
#mirc_spola and #mirc are DIFFERENT CHANNELS
with vchans you can create YOUR OWN #mirc EVEN IF SOMEBODY ELSE HAS ALREADY CREATED ONE
see the difference?

But they're still different channels, just now they have the same name to make things more confusing for everyone. That seems to be the stupidest idea an IRCd has come up with in quite some time, it's completely pointless and only caters to little children on IRC who simply *must* have the channelname they want.

8) If someone wants to visit a link they're gonna visit it. No amount of protection will stop stupid people from doing stupid things.

Vchan support is pretty sad. starbucks is right, having a channel with your own name is pretty pathetic. Who cares if you don't have #warez ? smirk #warez2 it. And you must understand, how many networks do you know that support vchan? smirk In fact i've never heard of it and it sounds to me like you're lying through your teeth. However all of your other suggestions are very cool smile I especially like the $iif in dialog popups smile No more massive /did -v 's :P

If you want a 'vchan' for example #mIRC because someone else has it, and you wanted (in that example) to be wicked because you own #mIRC then other people would have to type the same /cjoin #mIRC !blah, and I don't think the everyday Joe would know this.

If you just want a personal channel, just join #mIRC_blah like what Spola said :-)

You won't like it when I get angry.

ummm lets see
because they make TAKEOVERS useless?
because on networks with no chan service there's no way to get your channel back after a takeover?
because the idea is that channel names are NOT OWNED?
because they give you much more freedom?
because they will decrease abuse dramatically?
and i wouldn't call hybteam members stupid ;b
anyways, there's still no official release of hybrid7, but when it's finally released I'm pretty sure there will be vchans support
so sooner or later this will have to be added

then I guess Khaled should set autoaccept dccs, remove the warnings and the locking options, put some examples of harmful code in mirc.hlp?:)
most of those viruses msg something like: "click here for free porn", not "paste this in your browser"
and of course there's no way to prevent this msgs without putting some limitations to private chats, but believe it or not, this will decrease the number of ppl visiting such sites

- Takeovers are always useless, anyone who thinks that being in control of a channel makes them important in any way needs serious psychological treatment.
- Change channel names then? If you're so happy about the idea of channel names not being owned then changing channel names shouldn't be an issue for you, just make it a non-private/secret channel and let people find the channel by /whois'ing you.
- Much more freedom how exactly?
- Abuse of what? Takeovers is something minor. If you really can't stand takeovers go to a network which supports channel services.
- It will never have to be added, the idea still seems ridiculous to me.

8) There's a difference between trying in vain to stop someone from doing something stupid that they want to do and deliberately exposing them to things which they didn't want or ask for. When someone clicks a link, that person has consciously made the choice to go there, it's not up to mIRC to protect people from themselves.

This discussion is useless ;b
First of all, you're talking about a thing that you know nothing about
learn a little more about vchans and then talk about what's good or wrong
next, the fact you don't like them doesn't make them useless, neither you're the person who decides whether they will be supported in mIRC or not
third, try to accept other people viewpoints
for example go to efnet and take a nice look around ;b
ppl who run this network share those ideas - nicknames and channels are NOT OWNED
and last, save your sarcasm and irony for yourself
words like "serious psychological treatment" might cause you many problems
as far as the control of channel is concernded - can you imagine thet out there perhaps 100 000 chatters have their own small channels where they meet their friends?
how nice will it be to find out one day that the channel is taken by some jerk?
and how much easier is to create a new (v)chan with the same name, so their friends can just do a /j #my_buddy_chan and mIRC will help them step in the right channel, without even knowing there were problems with the chan
I doubt that you ever think of such tiny little needless things but anyways ;b
end of discussion ;b

I haven't been following EFnet politics lately but I think its very unlikely that they will adopt vchans even if it is part of the hybrid 7 package. I believe ircd-ratbox (a hybrid fork) removed vchan support entirely. Of course this does not mean that some other network who uses hybrid 7 servers won't enable them. I guess it does not hurt to add in a little popup dialog with the list of virtual channels prompting the user to pick (thats really all that is needed to support vchans..they otherwise work like normal channels). If the server does not indicate that it has vchan support in the 005 numeric then mIRC users wont notice any difference.

vasil_michev: do you know of any networks that have vchans enabled and functioning? I have read about vchans but have not had the opportunity to play with them.

For those who want to read about vchans and how they work go to the hybrid website

only ircops can use /cjoin, but you may ask in some oh our help chans (see the notices you'll receive on connect, or my info again for one of them)
ooooooooooh wink
I've promised Karen not to spam again - see your privmsgs smile
