i'm new to the hosting scene, and i wanted to know what kind of scripts the big channels use for coloring of text and stuff, basically, how they make it pretty, and how they post all that information the first time someone joins...please give me back some input..thanks!

Which scripts the big channels use is completely irrelevant. Fact is most those colorful stuffs are being generated by scripts which spam the crap out of others, or are unsafe to use. You should never use scripts you don't trust (And yes, I know many people still use em, but that's beside the point). In general, the more annoying the script's colors are, the smaller the chance the script is safe and doesn't spam. The scripts out there that were made with channel protection etc in mind, like PnP and MISHscript, do not use excessive colors.

pnp: not a clue, maybe mircscripts.org
mishscript: mishscript.de
stupid-color-scripts: goto a big channel and wait till you get spammed by them

since pairc.net (or was it pairc.com?) is no longer in existence, ScriptHeaven.net is now hosting the last releases of pnp Here
