IRC == Internet Relay CHAT
IRC != Internet Relay Filesharing Service IRC != Internet Relay Piracy System
I don't know about anyone else, but I am getting seriously annoyed by the number of new users coming to mIRC because "their friend said it was a great place to download free stuff".
People don't seem to realise the threat to the rest of us.
The more freeloaders start using mIRC - which is after all the most widespread IRC client, and (it could be argued) is responsible in large part for IRC ceasing to be a geek-and-expert-only medium - the more servers are going to close down for fear of legal action. It's already happened to Easynet...
(Yes, I know some networks have seen the light and banned filesharing, but one legal case for allowing someone to slip the net and *poof*...)
