its too much work to say "here go download this program and install it" and then if theres an updateed version then what? some things may not work right.
That's exactly the thing.
You are saying, "People distribute mirc.exe in their scripts, beause most users are too lazy/stupid to install scripts and addons themselves."
We are saying, "People need to accept the fact that mIRC
must be downloaded from
www.mirc.com, and scripts must be installed on top of it either manually or via script installers. People too stupid to do this
must not use scripts. period."
mIRC may not be re-distributed with modifications to it, even to benifit users that don't know any better or who have no desire to know better. It is imperative that these users know exactly what they're getting themselves into when they install and use a script. This
law is what prevents viruses from spreading, and ensures the integrity of mIRC's name as a safe application.
Even open source projects have laws that people must follow when creating a distribution, public or private. Look at the problems that scripts like Polaris and Invision have caused, these users don't even realize they're using mIRC... and if anything, that's a crime against Khaled.
Creating a script installer is easy as pie. Simply WinZip your script and all its related files including mirc.ini. Then make the ZIP Self-Extracting. All the user has to do is double-click your SFX installer and specify the path to mIRC.
Done.
