Allow /splay to work on .mpg & .avi etc. Currently, renaming them to *.mp3, *.ogg or *.wma and using /splay .. will open them in an MCI_activex(?) window. The $insong identifiers also seem to be fine with this method, as is /splay pause|seek|resume|stop.
Note: not asking for any more support for these types, only that the extensions be unblocked from being passed to MCI.

This has already been talked about. The argument is the sound files offer enhancement to irc, as you can chat and listen. Watching a video however, is one or the other.
Personally, If you want video--get out mPLayer, Winamp, etc. Mirc has things that make irc fun, not distractions.

And what's that going to do, send the mpg file line by line to the channel?

Since it's already supported, the distractions are already there anyway. It's just a question of unblocking extensions, shouldn't affect anything at all.

Yeah if you want to "watch a video", apart from the purpose of mIRC not being that, this is entirely unsuitable, with no controls etc. Plus widescreen TV's do that SO much better. However, for viewing small clips of 20-30 secs this is excellent, and does not interupt the flow of chatting at all.

Point in case--from the help file (I even outlined the ones I thought were neccisery..)
The play feature is a powerful tool that allows you to play text files to users or channels on IRC.
Now let me add some sarcasm to stress the point..
What are you going to do, <sarcasm>play the video to the channel line by line?</sarcasm>

Ah yes, but /play can also be used to echo stuff to yourself. /.play -settext mirc.ini 1
