A computer help guy and I changed some settings (can't remember what in the heck I did) on my computer and now I can only connect to the irc.mircx.com server. What do I need to do so that I can connect to all the other servers too?

what error msg do you get when you try to connect?

try typing
/server 66.250.51.200

if you cant connect, try
/server acool.dal.net

let us know what error msg you get. hard for us to just guess what the tech guy did, maybe blocked ports in a firewall?

He most likely did do something with a firewall. My school had always had one, but I could still get on mirc no problem (it doesn't interfere with file sharing). The thing I remember him doing was disabling msn, which I attempted to reenable so I could send files through AIM. Maybe he did something else or I didn't fully reenable it though. Anyway, this is the message I got when I tried to connect to those two servers:

I know it isn't a problem with my connection, because I tried to make this connection in a new window while still connected to mircx (in the past I have tried to get on a server other than mircx while not connected to any other server and got the same results).

Oh, also all the servers worked last year and at the beginning of this year until the computer guy (who had come to fix my roommate's computer after the worm hit it) messed with the settings on both our computers as a "helpful gesture". The school itself does not ban file sharing, and until now the firewall had not kept anyone from doing it.

Also, if it helps I can no long connect to port 59 either, even when I type in the command to allow me to (I used to just be able to type the command).

if he did something with the firewall it woud be a good idea to ask them to fix it if they can ..... or will. thats what your tuition pays them for.

I have considered that, but they are really bad about getting out and about to fix things so I thought I would ask here before I called them.

it sounds like he may have blocked the server ports (6667-6669,7000-7001) and port 59, but we can only guess. I'd ask him as D3mon suggested. WOuldnt hurt to double check with the powers that be at your school, after all the probs with recent worms/trojans they may have changed their policy about what you are allowed to access

okay, thanks, I will try and call them tomorrow and see if they can fix it. as far as I know though no changes have been made as far as school internet policy though. thanks a lot for your help >^.^<
