You follow the directions given to you in Khaled's email.

There's no reason anyone should be asking this question on here.

There are plenty of reasons why that could be asked. Do you save your emails... forever? Maybe he registered mIRC 4 years ago. Obviously, he would have deleted the email since then. But, he took the time to write the registration code down on a piece of paper. Now he got a new PC and he wants to register mIRC. So he needs to know where to enter the information since he no longer has the email explaining it.

I'd say that's a very likely scenario.

Well, I do have emails dating back to '97, if that counts. :x

Regardless, the volume of people asking this question suggests either mass-amnesia about such a simple process... or that people are using unscrupulous means of obtaining a registration code.

I think we ought to simply direct users to this page instead, allowing them to obtain a new email with official instructions.

That means a whole lotta eople bought new computers at about the same time 6.1 comes out. Since you don't have to re-enter the key for a simple upgrade. Call me a pessimist, but it's the type of coincedence I don't believe in smile

yes it is quite possible ... some of you are acting like they're asking for your registration code or something. where's the beef here? they're just asking how/where to enter the code and you guys are assuming they're thieves.

Edit: Sorry ParaBrat, yours was just the reply I clicked on. smirk

so you're saying that because a few people do it, that means everyone does it, or anyone asking for help regarding registration does it?

do you do it?
if your answer is no, how would you like people to assume you do just because you're asking for help with registering?

I don't recall the registration email mentioning the /registration command. I can't seem to find it in the help file either. So, if Khaled wanted everyone to either get the information on where to enter the code either from the email or the help file, why would he create a command that is not mentioned in either?

It either means he downloaded a cracked copy, or it means he's too lazy to read the email he was sent which clearly explained how to add the key. It also means then that he is too lazy to look it up in the helpfile, or -as said earlier- that he has never registered any shareware at all, because the ALL have a registration option under the help menu.

If Khaled wanted everyone to know about the /registration command, it would be documented.

There's a greater chance that such a command exists because the Help > Register menu item disappears after you register, leaving no means for someone to 'correct' their information when they decide to become legit.

One should only have to give this command out to users who have previously cracked mIRC. To say the least, we shouldn't be giving it out.

I've given it out at least a dozen times, and I see other people are as well. No moderator, to my knowledge, has ever modified a post that contained this command, nor have I ever received a private message from a moderator and/or Khaled/Tjerk telling me that we are not supposed to give that command out. Therefore I completely disagree with you. If Khaled wanted that command to only work on registered versions of mIRC then he would have made it so it didn't work in unregistered versions. He did not do this. You are simply guessing what his intention was, and you don't really have facts to back it up.
