It would be nice if mIRC allowed adding multiple/infinate amount of Alt-Nicks, since sometimes on larger networks both the nickname and alt-nick can be taken... which can be a pain.

Yes I know this can be fixed with a script, but thats besides the point smile

Or you could simply pick a not-so-popular nick as alt-nick. The alt-nick is only for connecting purposes anyway, you can always change it when you have connected.

That would take away the fun of scripting it yourself. smile

Hint: RAW 433:*: nick $2 $+ $r(1,99)

Of course you'll want to write something slightly more complex to take into account max nick length, and to prevent infiite looping. You can also check if ($editbox(Status Window) == /nick) to make sure it only picks a random nick when failing upon connection (when mIRC sticks /nick in the status window's editbox).

Yes, we could create a nick with random chars, one less popular... so if our main nick is stolen we have to use a crappy nick in the mean time :P

OR.... my feature could be added smile ... Since you "or"ed me, i'm oring you back smile Hehe it's almost like you're afraid to add anything new that may be useful to some people.

And yes, I am aware that it can be scripted in, as I already said, but that wasn't my point. Just other IRC clients have this feature, mIRC does not.

It is also possible that if you get disconnected twice, and you have 2 ghosts on IRC with your main nick and alt nick... then mirc will not reconnect, more alt-nicks would solve this too.

Hmm, a built in list would make it that much more difficult to jupe an unattended (and/or troublesom) client from connecting.

Some might call this a pro, others might call it a con.

True, but if you're meaning what Ithink you're meaning, wouldn't those 'troublesome clients' not be scripted to use random nicks anyway?

I guess that depends on your definition of troublesom. smile

I think rather then more alt. nicknames, a better alert for when both your nickname and alt. nickname are in use. Something like an input dialog which will popup, rather then just putting /nick in the status window editbox.

This would be helpful for those who don't have unique nicknames and join multiple servers at once. You could be watching another window and just having /nick put into the editbox isn't exactly warning enough before your connection times out.

I don't like the idea of a popup dialog, because it could interfere with the operation of scripts in other connections. Perhaps making mIRC beep/flash would be a better solution.

PS. IIRC, a dialog actually was be displayed several versions back, and seemingly removed. I had been /halting the dialog for so long I never noticed it being removed.

Yeah, that would be better, just needs something to make it more noticable.
