Cannot install v6.1 #44840 29/08/03 10:02 PM

OP RagingDemon Pikka bird R Joined: Jul 2003 Posts: 19 Athens, Greece	When I try to run the installer of v6.1 an error dialog popups telling me that the file might be damaged and that I should download the newest version of mIRC... I have downloaded it 3 times from 3 different servers, I have also got it sent via DCC and I still get the same error... I' m using Win98... does that have to do anything with my problem? "Three words of destruction: Shun-Goku-Satsu"

I redownloaded it and then used start menu/run to install it instead of double clicking it in the file manager i use, powerdesk. Which one made it install, beats me, but you may want to try to use the start menu/run if you weren't.

Why whould the file I received from a user via DCC be damaged if he already used it to install 6.1 into his system? I still can' t get it installed, even from the Run menu... PS: I do not use the 2nd edition of Win98. Has this anything to do with it? If you want to see the error message click here "Three words of destruction: Shun-Goku-Satsu"

MikeO1 Mostly harmless M Joined: Aug 2003 Posts: 1	I also use W98 SE. and I just downloaded the newest version of mIRC. but somehow my computer seems to use the older version... Which i deleted....completeley, even the backup... When I look at the version it is, it says 5.71...

Could it be a fault with the .NET components of my system? I' m trying to download them from microsoft' s site and see... "Three words of destruction: Shun-Goku-Satsu"

I suspect what you are seeing was a trojan already on your puter since the mIRC download from approved sites is clean. Many trojans drop what is called v5.71 as part of their payload. Deleting it wont help, you need to get rid of the trojan. I use win98se and didnt have any probs d/l or installing, and i know ppl using win98 who didnt either As a side note to all, be sure you arent running another version of mIRC when you install, and sometimes ppl find they need to shut down everything else running (including in the background) when they install ParaBrat @#mIRCAide DALnet
