Latestly, the ~ char has been introduced on nicks on an IRC Network with 40,000 users, called IRC-Hispano.

The RFC1495 tell that this character is allowed on nicks
(^ = ~). But...:

-
10:52pm -> Server: nick ~hello~
-
vega.irc-hispano.org - Unknown Network
-

What's happen? I use mIRC 6.03 with REMOTES off.

Just a note: RFC 1459 (which I assume is what you meant by 1495) makes no mention at all of ~ being allowed in nicks, it specifies the first character must be a-z, followed by a-z, 0-9, or []-{}\^`.

Spelling mistakes, grammatical errors, and stupid comments are intentional.

The ircd on different networks is developped independently by the people on that network. If you are unable to connect to a server or if a previous feature that was working on a server is no longer working, then you should speak to the staff on that network. In this case, http://www.irc-hispano.org/ might provide some insight.

"vega.irc-hispano.org - Unknown Network"

you wouldn't happen to be using a bouncer/bnc? I'm pretty sure that is a message from the 'psybnc' program.. try connecting to the server without using your bouncer and do that '/nick ~hello~'
