ok yes i read the respons to the other one asking about this but no actually responded clearly or explained it for a noobs perspective. yes i did check my ports and didnt see 113 blocked. and yes i can connect without zone alarm but zone alarm is a must if im going to be on irc. and the only ports i saw that could be blocked or unblocked were for netbios which has nothing to do with irc. so if anyone can provide a clear explanation and not flame me that would be great. thanks for your time ..

1. I would be making sure Netbios (to be honest I have forgotten the port number for this) is blocked unless you have a special reason for keeping it open.
2. If Zone is set to "High" protection then port 113 will be blocked and you will need to open it by specifying it int he appropriate area in Zone's settings.

That won't be because of 113 being blocked. Either you simply cannot reach the server (it may be down or the IP/hostname you are using is wrong) or the server is ignoring your attempt to connect EG: A z:line may be in place, which means that basically, the server and your mIRC won't know or care for each other.

When a lack of Ident affects you the server will usually send you a message stating it. Usually something like "Enable Ident" or similar, and this will only hapen after a confirmed attempt to connect has been recognised by the server - you'll get a few server notices showing this.

Okay, we are getting somewhere. Now you need to read the instructions for Zonealarm to work out how to open the required port because I don't have a copy handy and it also depends on the version you have. WHen you open the Zone options dialogue you'll see the Low, Med, High settings, click on the setting you use and then look down near the bottom of the dialogue, there should be some editboxes to place information in such as ports to exempt from the firewall.

It may very well have been Zone's fault. It will ask you if you want to approve a programme to connect to the internet and it may have simply overlooked your last install for some reason, anyway, glad to see that you are connected.

hello, don't know if you know this but, zonealarm works on program permissions.
it means that you must go to zonealarm options (programs control) and give permission for mirc to connect to internet in programs section.

this will fix your problem unlesse you try to use udp ports smile
