Sounds as though you have an unwanted version of mIRC running on your computer (virus, trojan, etc). You may want to run (if you have one) your virus scanner with the latest patches and defintions. If you don't have one, there are manysiggestions on the forums dealing with this issue. ParaBrat also has a weblink to an online Virus Scanner. I would suggest using the forums's Search feature, expand the forum to "all forums", date range to "all posts" and type "virus". You should get numerous results on this issue.

this is quite unlikely if it IS a virus/trojan but before doing what kt said, check your applications/processes in your task manager for "mirc.exe"

The way the user hinted at them not being able to close mirc implys (to me) that its not found on the start menu or tray. This would infer that mirc is running as a hidden process, and whenever that occurs, i can almost guarentee that its a virus. Also, if it were a clean installation of mirc, the add/remove programs list would also have an entry for mirc removal.

I think that before you ever go about ending the process, you should always scan the computer regardless of how unlikely you think it may be. If you close the copy of mIRC which is running as a hidden process, then uninstall it and it was a virus/trojan, it would have most likely affected the registry so uninstall the program itself without fixing that problem as well can cause more issues.

You're also assuming that s/he is able to view the processes running, what if they're using Win98 which only lists applications which are on the taskbar and not those running in the background?

Good anti-virus software should be able to delete them instantly. If they are running then you may have to kill them in the task manager first.

Rogerrr, please dont start a new thread about the same problem, it makes it very confusing for the ppl trying to help you. Just post your questions here on this thread.

If the virus scanner showed the files as uncleanable, you need to do some research about those trojans to see if they are safe to simply delete. Read all of this thread: https://forums.mirc.com/showflat.php?Cat=...=true#Post37329 and Check the info on what you found at the sites mentioned there.
