Downloading movies is illegal, if you want movies try www.bestbuy.com. IRC is Internet Relay CHAT. It was meant for chatting, not so people could break the law and trade copyrighted files.

First, welcome to the wonderful world of mIRC and IRC. However, we do not help with illegal filesharing on this forum. Since you are new:

-it is illegal to fileshare copyrighted material such as movies, music, games, software and we do not support or encourage illegal activities.

-downloading those files, and clicking on every url you see in pursuit of them is a HUGE source of trojans that infect your puter and you then unknowingly spread it to others. Those trojans cause damage in many ways.

-it is against the AUP (Acceptable Use Policy) of many networks and providers.

-is it really worth the trojans and lawsuits you would be subject to (yes, industries have ways of finding you and those ways are increasing) than to just go to your local video store? Nope.

Umm when you said downloading movies, I didn't (and still don't) think you mean "My Baby's First Birthday" movies.

Basically what everyone is saying is, mIRC is a Chat client which the obvious use is chatting. mIRC does not stand for my Illegal Ripping Client. We do not encourage any filesharing that consists of distributing copyrighted materials.

Note: "We" is expressed as the few members on this board whom agree.

Downloading is classed as trading and if the material is copyrighted to other people (in other words you did not make the movie or download it off someone who did) then the file is illegally re-produced.

you know...i think they just made it a law that you cannot trade and download these files/games....in the past everything was legal as long as you dont sell it for a profit....

It may just depend on what country you live in as to what the law explicitly states. However, regardless of the law, most, if not all, industrial nations have signed treaties that allow, infact compell, them to protect copyrighted material that exists in all countries that are signatories to such treaties. In a sense it could be internationally illegal for you to trade in copyrighted material without it being illegal in your jurisdiction to actually possess it. And if your country happens to have an extradition treaty with the copyright owners country then you would be in real strife if they were to take action.
