Hey, I am sick and tired of idling in some chats where people who annoy me come in and say random stupid things that greatly piss me off. So I figured I will make a channel of my own. The problem I now face is how do I make a channel that will run well.

So here is a couple questions that I need help with, any help is greatly appreciated.

1. How do I make my chat so when I leave it, it will still be open?
2. How do I create a bot for my channel?
3.What influence does nickserv have on my channel and how can I get it to be recognized?
4. How do I change the look of my channel in the bar on /list.

And if you have any suggestions about making a channel post them for me.

Please help, thank you.

I'm assuming your chosen network has ChanServ, as you already mentioned NickServ. You will need to register your channel so that it doesn't 'disappear' once the last person leaves it. Create your channel, then type /chanserv help register

Some networks have a bot lending service, or you could search around for an eggdrop bot. If you opt for the latter, you will need either a shell account or a 24/7 connection.

Depending on what modes you set for your channel, you might opt to restrict it to people with registered nicks.

I too am in the same situation. I just created my own channel but there is a lot of questions in addition to yours (which are very good by the by the way) I have about channel mngmt that the IRC FAQ doesn't address.
If you find a good information source about this could you please let me know?

This is a strange little world and getting used to it is hard indeed.

TIA

If you want to it to be open all the time, when you part. Just register the channel (+r). There's a few kinds of bots. You got mIRC bots, channel agents and many more.
Channel Agents are assigned in a room to keep the room open and appear in the channel list. (I think) smile
Then there's mIRC bots. mIRC bots are scripts written to respond to commands given by the owner and users, and also events that happen.
Once you identify to NickServ under the founder nickname. ChanServ will then op you.

The reason that the IRC/mIRC FAQ doesn't include help on channel management is that each network has it's own policies, default modes, services etc. It would be impossible to include these for each network in a generic FAQ. The best thing to do is find out what services are available on the network, and then visit the help channels there for more info. If services are available, you could also type /chanserv help and /nickserv help for a list of basic commands. smile

in addition to the great answers already provided, you mite check the networks website. some of them have tons of good info on helping you manage your channel, detailing options, like DALnet's help docs
