I agree. A checkbox option to make /dns show multiple IPs is reasonable. Whois on query is scriptable yet there is an option for that

Yeah you're right, whois on query should be removed Anyway, http://www.mircscripts.org/comments.php?id=2100 Should do what was suggested. The code to do it is essentially 5-10 lines, why should it be builtin when it is so easy to do?

*shrug* There are lots of options that can easily be scripted. They get added because they are useful and most users aren't going to run to mircscripts.org and search through snippets. They also won't know how to do it on their own.
I already have an on dns event to handle it so I won't be upset if its not added but I wouldn't mind seeing it built in.

Well imho thats not really a good reason. If the user doesn't go to mircscripts.org and doesn't look for the script... why is that Khaled's problem? If the user doesn't take the time to look for it, why should Khaled take the time to hardcode it into mIRC? If the user is lazy, that is the user's problem.

I don't think its a matter of laziness. Some users just don't know of mircscripts.org or that /dns could even return multiple addresses.
Like I said, it won't hurt me either way so I'm not going to get upset over it. I don't see any harm in adding it.

It is never Khaled's problem, it's Khaled's prerogative. He adds features to please his users at large, not because it cannot be scripted. If Khaled really objected to suggestions like Multiple IPs in /dns, then this forum wouldn't exist.
I think Khaled ought to give obsessed a free user license for his suggestion, if only to spite you.

Yes that would really spite me... oh wait, no, no it wouldn't. In fact I couldn't care less if he gave a free license to everyone except me, he could give everyone except me 100 license and I still wouldn't care.
And btw, it's not ME saying easily-scripted == not-added, it's the forum's moderators... you know the people Khaled/Tjerk handpicked. Well they are the ones who have said "if it can easily be scripted it most likely won't be added." So why, if the moderators so blatantly lie, would Khaled keep them as moderators? Perhaps because they aren't the ones who are wrong.

Nick colouring was scriptable with /cline but now it's part of mIRC's core, why can't multiple IP's from /dns?
Both functions are non-essential but popular among users.

Define easily scriptable most of the mirc users have a low level of script knowlegde or none at all. What may seem easy to you might be very difficult for the majority. Anyway it seem logical that /dns would return all ip adresses.

To me it seems more logical that if I DNS a host, mIRC returns the IP address for that. Returning multiple IP address would be confusing to most users I think.
Althoug I do agree with the principle that something can be added even if it's scriptable. It can be added if mIRC can do it better, Or if it's hard to script, or something just plain cool that a lot of users would like. Or something that jst 'belongs' in mIRC's library. I can't think what category this feature suggestion would belong to.
For example, when mIRC added nick coloring feature, it implemented it in a far superior way to any of the current scripts. For a nick color script to be as good as mIRC's would be very hard, and not a trivial scripting task at all. If a script tried to implement something so advanced, it would no doubt be bug-ridden. Infact most nick color scripts were simple OP,Voice, Regular coloring.

Personally though, if this feature was added and I typed /dns my first thought would be "that's pretty cool".

Yes but thats because you know that a host can have multiple IPs. Being that I work with IRC server software, I know that most people don't know this. People seem to think, for example, that things like irc.dal.net random server pools are controlled by the IRCd software, not by the DNS software. When I tell them "you need to edit your DNS settings to do that" they say "But DALnet's server can do it." I think, for the average user, such a feature is going to be more confusing than useful. Like I said, most users don't even know that a hostname can resolve to multiple IPs.

I would think it would need to be done via a switch if it was done. What if you wanted just one item to be returned for a script for example?
Maybe /dns -a.....a for "all ip entries" if it was done.
