Hi,

For the past two weeks or so, I've been having trouble connecting to the Othernet Server (irc.othernet.org). I keep getting this message "Unable to connect to server: Connection timed out" when trying to connect to the 'irc.othernet.org' server. I have never had any issues logging onto this server for at least a couple of years up until two weeks ago. Is there a list of other servers that I can use to try and connect to the Othernet Server?

Kind regards,
mlansky

Looks like their website is also down.

I typed this in my status window:

Code
/dns irc.othernet.org

And I got this:

Code
[11:57:48] * Dns resolved irc.othernet.org to 23.237.154.234, 23.237.10.138

I tried connecting with:

Code
/server 23.237.154.234

That got me connected to Chicago.IL.US.Othernet.org.

Hi KindOne,

Thank you for your reply. I tried the server you suggested but I'm still getting the same message.."[13:12:26] * Unable to connect to server: Connection timed out" I also tried "/server Chicago.IL.US.Othernet.org" with the same result as well. Are there other servers that I could try?

Thanks again,
mlansky

I don't know of any other servers. The 23.237.154.234 address still works for me at the time of this post.

They have something mis-configured. When I try the normal
/server irc.othernet.org 6667
then a small percentage of the time I end up on the chicago server but the majority of the time it just sits there and does nothing. Often this indicates that at least 1 of the servers behind the irc.name-of-network.org address is not responding. In which case you would just let mirc retry after a delay and hope it works the next time.

Usually networks have a support #channel where you can contact the people running the network, and is most often named #help or #whatever-is-the-name-of-the-network

I tried #othernet but it was invite-only, and #help didn't have anyone except an X bot telling me to send an email and maybe get a reply in 12 hours, which I'm not going to do.

Note that #help didn't show up when clicking on the LIST icon because the default setting is to show channels with at least 3 people

Thank you for the reply. Unfortunately when trying that server its just a constant loop with this same message.."[16:38:57] * Connecting to 23.237.154.234(23.237.154.234) port 6667..
[16:39:57] * Unable to connect to server: Connection timed out
[16:39:57] * Disconnected..
[16:39:57] * Retry #1 in 5 seconds"

I don't know, I have been logging onto this server for years then all of a sudden around two weeks ago, it won't let me. I'm sure there are lots of other people out there (including yourself) that are able to log onto the Othernet Server with no problem whatsoever.

Dunno what to tell you, I rarely ever have more than 1 or 2 fails before it connects to chicago. Maybe they block ip's from your part of the world
