From the system menu for "Status Window" or for a #channel which does not have "Default" checkmarked, you can't tell whether the window's background is using a non-default image or is using 'none'.

If the $style(1) checkmark is allowed next to 'None', you can then tell if a background is set for that window.

Because mIRC doesn't load window background images when it thinks memory is low, or for images too similar to $color(background), it can be difficult to tell the current setting without looking at mirc.ini

The other menu items on the system menu have places to see what the current default is, but the background item does not. Perhaps /background could have a way to report current settings.

Almost all the switch letters are taken so perhaps "/background" without parameters could show active settings the way "/timer" reports active timers.
Or it could use /background -g now that the /finger window has magically disappeared.
or add property $window(#channel).background
