Whenever I attempt to connect to *any* server I receive the following message;

Quote:
* Unable to connect to server (Permission denied)

I could do with some advice in regards to what to do. I've tried re-installing mIRC but it hasn't done anything, and I don't have enough experience with the software to know what to do.

Ok, installing an older version of mIRC worked. No idea what the problem is, but it's clearly something to do with the latest update.

When connections fail like that, it's usually either the firewall or your anti-virus software denying access. Maybe your firewall accepts an older version but not the newer? Worth investigating

If the servers are telling you that you cannot join the server, then perhaps your identd is not turned on.

Options --> Connect tab ---> Identd tab --> there is a box that says "Enable Identd Server" .. make sure this is checked.

You can twist perceptions .. reality won't budge!
