I just configured SASL for mIRC using the first part of this here tutorial-> http://freenode.net/sasl/sasl-mirc.shtml

It worked, but only when I connect to the server using 6667 as the port. When I try to use +7000 in order to connect through SSL, I get a prompt to identify my nick because it's registered. What gives? Can't use SASL to authenticate nick if I connect through an SSL connection?

Odd. I started a blank mIRC, loaded the script, entered in my info, went into the server list, change the "chat.freenode.net" into "irc.freenode.net" (since i use irc. instead of the chat. one.)

//server irc.freenode.net:+7000

* Connecting to irc.freenode.net (+7000)
-holmes.freenode.net- *** Looking up your hostname...
-holmes.freenode.net- *** Checking Ident
-holmes.freenode.net- *** Found your hostname
-holmes.freenode.net- *** No Ident response
KindOne Nickname is already in use.
*!KindOne@colchester-lug/silly-fool/donut KindOne You are now logged in as KindOne.
SASL authentication successful

(I had to "/nick KindOne_" since my KindOne nick was already in use. Usually, this only happens when I ping timeout since my ISP <insert_bad_words_here>. And within a minute or two, I reconnect as KindOne.)

Welcome to the freenode Internet Relay Chat Network KindOne_
Your host is holmes.freenode.net[83.170.73.249/7000], running version ircd-seven-1.1.3

/* and more stuff ... */

End of /MOTD command.
* KindOne_ sets mode: +Zi
Local host: hxxx.xxx.xxx.xxx.dynamic.ip.windstream.net (xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx)

What is your IRC nick? Some people with 'ls' in their nick need to do this:
Change "raw CAP:*LS*:{", and change it to "raw CAP:& LS *:{", line 95.
(if that change works, you can thank "Sat" or "Saturn", I forget his forum name.

I get "sasl authentication successful" when I use //server chat.freenode.net:+7000

I get the identify nick prompt when I use //server irc.freenode.net:+7000

Where is the server list where I'm supposed to change "chat.freenode.net" into "irc.freenode.net".?

Also, my nick doesn't have "ls"

Ah, should of been more specific.

ALT+E, scroll down or whatever to the freenode one.

Did that fix your issue?

yeah, that did. So it was just edit where it says "random server" under freenode. Cool. Do I just leave it alone where it says "ports"?

Thanks for the help.

You can add the port, just use a , to separate them (not sure if you have to add a + before the port number since its ssl).
