i am using mirc 7.15 under wine running on a gnome desktop. the gnome desktop has different workspaces (desktops) that can be selected using ctrl+alt+<arrow key>. when i use this keyboard shortcut to switch to/from the workspace containing mirc, mirc freezes.

also, a little box/window pops up titled "mirc password" with a blinking cursor in it. although the window hasn't been completely drawn because of the freeze, so i can't say any more details about this window. but, i do not have a password set for mirc. i have tried to use 'esc' and 'enter' when the box is there but it does not go away. if i click the X on the box to close it, gnome tells me it's not responding and i eventually just have to 'force quit' mirc and restart it.

here is a screenshot (i've censored out some distracting details): http://i.imgur.com/PQm7G.png

Have you reported this in the Wine forums first? This is most likely a Wine issue.

Sorry... ok, thanks. I'll try asking over there and see how it goes.
